Exemplary Kahoot Question
Content & Aim of Session
The students are part of an international cohort, Year 1, 2nd semester of the BSc Business Management. The observed 1-hour learning activity was part of a longer 4-hour session held in Week 5, on the module "Operations and Project Management".
The aim of the observed part of the session is to summarise the previous 4-5 weeks of learning. Students were introduced to Project Management Tools in those weeks. The created quiz administered via Kahoot aims to help students check their learning and understand grasp of key concepts which will be required further down the line to complete their assessment brief.
Students' Feedback
Kahoot provides the option to collect direct, quantitative feedback via the integrate feedback function at the end of each Quiz (see screenshot below). The overall game rating (4.2/5.0) by students suggest overall satisfaction with the quiz. While all students indicated they learned something from this Kahoot and would recommend it, some students indicated negative or neutral feelings towards the quiz (3 -neutral, 3 - negative, with 21 - positive). This could be linked to their performance on the quiz and will need to be addressed in future classes.
In addition to the quantitative feedback collected through Kahoot, students shared their thoughts on the activity after class by being invited to note these down on a piece of paper. Asked on suggestions to enhance the activity in the future, students shared:
"It is very interesting, we enjoy it"
"Overall, the quiz is very informative but multiple questions are difficult"
"Image questions are difficult to read"
"Not enough time to answer."
"Very fun and active game"
"This game makes each and everyone active (students)."
"Want this game played in each and every class."
Kahoot (in-App) Analysis
Kahoot provides in-app analysis of the questions' difficulty (based on how many participants answered each question correctly) and a percentage of correct answers for each question. Based on this data, several observations can be made:
1. "True or False" questions are consistently among the questions with the highest number of correct answers (~60%). By design, these questions were meant to be easier and most straightforward for students.
2. Particularly those MC questions with more than one correct answer have a low percentage of correct answers. By design, these were meant to be challenging and stretch students, while testing their understanding. However, the very low percentage of correct answers for some of these questions (between 0% to 10%) suggests these were either too difficult or other factors have impacted students ability to answer them correctly. This likely includes time for each question being too short (20 seconds). Particular as students are primarily non-native English-speakers more time will be required to fully read through and process the question and multiple answers before taking a decision.
